The Legislative Arm of Lafia Local Government Council has taken decisive action by suspending its Speaker, Mohammed Shuaibu Madaki, for six months following allegations of abuse of office and gross misconduct.

The suspension occurred during Tuesday’s plenary session, which was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Shuaibu Muhammad.

The move came after a motion was introduced by Yakubu Aliyu (APC, Ciroman) and seconded by Mohammed Abubakar (APC, Wakwa), both of whom cited concerns over the Speaker’s conduct.

Following a voice vote affirming the suspension, the Deputy Speaker announced the constitution of a five-man investigative committee to thoroughly examine the allegations against Madaki.

The committee, headed by Lazarus Okugya (APC, Assakio), is mandated to investigate and report back to the chamber with its findings for further legislative action.

The suspension marks a significant development in the ongoing internal dynamics of the Lafia Legislative Council.
