A deepening crisis has hit the Eggon Cultural Development Association (ECDA) following conflicting positions over the endorsement of Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki as the preferred candidate for the Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The controversy began after the Nasarawa South Senatorial District arm of ECDA endorsed Akwashiki, a decision that was later rejected by the association’s national leadership.
Addressing journalists in Nasarawa Eggon on Monday, December 22, 2025, ECDA President, Dr. Mandy David Abuluya, announced the nullification of the endorsement, citing alleged breaches of Section 4, Subsection 1 of the association’s constitution.
Reacting, the Chairman of ECDA in the Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Mr. Judah Attah, dismissed the national leadership’s position, insisting that the endorsement followed due process and extensive consultations.
According to Attah, the endorsement involved the Eggon Youth Association (EYA), ECDA women and men wings, as well as traditional rulers in Lafia and Obi Local Government Areas.
He maintained that the action aligned with the ECDA constitution, which encourages unity and peaceful coexistence among Eggon people, and accused the national executive of misinterpreting the relevant provisions.
Attah further argued that the endorsement was a local decision that did not require intervention from the national body, urging the ECDA leadership to respect the autonomy of its zonal structures.
The southern ECDA leadership called on the national executive to support the endorsement rather than fuel division, while appealing to Eggon stakeholders to remain calm and united as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
