Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has inaugurated ten new Digital Learning Centres across the country, including one located in Lafia, Nasarawa State, as part of efforts to deepen digital education and bridge the technology gap among Nigerian youths.
The commissioning, conducted virtually from Abuja on Thursday, also covered centres situated in Zamfara, Ondo, Kano, Yobe, Abia, Katsina, Edo, and Delta States. Each of the facilities is named after prominent Nigerian women who have made exceptional contributions to national development.
Senator Tinubu noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, designed to accelerate economic transformation through industrialization and digitalization.
According to her, the establishment of digital learning hubs across the country is a strategic move by the administration to promote innovation, enhance learning outcomes, and empower citizens with essential digital skills needed for global competitiveness.
In his remarks, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, revealed that the Federal Government, through NITDA, has so far established 296 digital learning centres nationwide. He added that the agency aims to achieve a total of 592 centres by 2027.
Abdullahi emphasized that digital literacy is a key driver of national development, describing it as a gateway to the global knowledge economy.
He commended President Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Renewed Hope Initiative for their commitment to expanding inclusive digital infrastructure that supports local talent development, innovation, and small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs).
Delivering a goodwill message, Nasarawa State First Lady, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, lauded Senator Tinubu and NITDA for providing a platform that promotes innovation and entrepreneurship among young Nigerians.
She called on state governments to complement the Federal Government’s effort by investing in ICT training and literacy programmes, particularly in rural and semi-urban communities, to ensure equitable access to digital opportunities.
The Lafia Digital Learning Centre is expected to serve as a hub for digital education, entrepreneurship development, and youth empowerment in Nasarawa State, fostering skills that will prepare the next generation for the demands of the modern economy.
