The journey to the podium and the ultimate prize N20million which is the biggest grassroots football championship in this part of the world, began five months ago and reaches its zenith on Thursday, October 16, when two top rated sides clash in the grand finale slated hold at the prestigious Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.

This third edition of the much-loved 1X football cup championship has continued to attract huge acceptance in Nigerian football community, and what with the expected attendance of top politicians, government functionaries, football investors and creme dela creme in the society, including Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni, representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, sports investor and philanthropist Yemi Idowu, members of the famous Lagos Legends Club,  amongst others, are on the roll call of important dignitaries to grace the much-anticipated football showpiece. 

This year’s final match of the 1X cup football championship would see two debutants, Ikorodu City and ISGAT Athletic trade tackles in the final for the mouth-watering prize of N10million and N5million, respectively, while new boys Nath Boys and old war horse Dosu Joseph will battle for prize money of N3million in the losers final.

And of course, there are individual prize money for the tournament's highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, most valuable player, best behaved team and goal of the tournament.

The organisers of the championship have made promises to improve upon their organisation on the day, with top notch security arrangements, that would of course, guarantee a seamless football showpiece.

Speaking on the final day football event, Chief Executive Officer of the 1X Cup Championship, Engr. Waidi Akanni disclosed the readiness of his team to put up a near-flawless football show with sweet admixture of fun, glitz, glamour, music and unforgettable entertainment for fans and guests. 

"We're working hard to ensure that the finals of this year’s edition is well organised, as we're also concerned about the lives and properties of everyone at the event. 

"We've so much plans to give the fans and guests unforgettable spectacle that includes the best of grassroots football, music, fun and yes, with presence of the members of the famous Lagos Legends Club, who would be entertaining fans with their celebrated skills, as they relieve their old playing days," Akanni, an ex-Nigeria international player and former Chairman of Lagos FA, disclosed.
