The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, Dr. John D. W. Mamman, has reaffirmed the state government’s determination to transform the education sector through infrastructural renewal, curriculum enhancement, and strengthened partnerships with tertiary institutions across the state.
Dr. Mamman made the commitment during an official visit to the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia, where he interacted with management and staff as part of his ongoing assessment tour aimed at boosting educational quality and institutional performance.
Government Focused on Practical Agricultural Training
During the visit, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the college’s progress in academic and infrastructural development, commending the management for maintaining standards in both teaching and research despite resource constraints.
He emphasized that Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration places agricultural education at the heart of its development strategy, recognizing its vital role in food security, youth empowerment, and economic diversification.
“Agricultural and technical education are key pillars of our state’s growth agenda. We are determined to strengthen institutions like the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, to produce graduates who can drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable farming,” Dr. Mamman stated.
The Commissioner also assured the institution of continued government support through improved funding, facility upgrades, and staff development initiatives, adding that the Ministry of Education would work closely with the college to modernize its curriculum in line with global agricultural trends.
Sule Administration’s Reforms in Education
Under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule, the Nasarawa State Government has implemented several reforms aimed at repositioning the education sector for excellence and sustainability.
Key among these initiatives are:
Rehabilitation of schools and tertiary institutions across all zones of the state.
Recruitment and training of teachers to improve instructional quality.
Expansion of technical and vocational education, particularly in science, technology, and agriculture.
Provision of modern learning facilities and digital infrastructure to enhance innovation and research.
Dr. Mamman noted that these efforts align with the government’s broader vision of producing skilled graduates who can contribute meaningfully to the state’s industrial and agricultural growth.
Provost Maikefi Commends State Government’s Support
Responding, the Provost of the College, Dr. Maikefi, expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for the visit, describing it as an encouragement to both staff and students.
He commended the administration’s commitment to education and assured that the college would continue to uphold high academic standards.
Dr. Maikefi also highlighted ongoing research and community outreach programmes designed to promote sustainable agricultural practices across Nasarawa State.
