President Tinubu Awards Contract For Construction Of Oju - Ogoja Road

President Bola Tinubu has 
announced the award of a contract for the construction of the abandoned Oju-Ogoja Federal Road, emphasizing the administration's dedication to improving infrastructure in the region.


The President disclosed this in a message delivered by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF Sen. George Akume, during this year's New Yam festival held at Oju Local Government Headquarters at the weekend.


President Tinubu commended the Igede Traditional Council in Benue State, North Central Nigeria for their efforts in preserving the culture of Igede Agba new yam festival, emphasizing its role in promoting heritage and unity among the people. 


The President highlighted the traditional council's importance in fostering peace, unity, and progress within the state, as well as its contribution to his administration's development initiatives. 


A statement by the Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Mr. Terrence Kuanum says President Tinubu also praised the involvement of the Igede speaking people in peace-building efforts in troubled areas.


"Your Royal Highness the Adiharu of Igede, CP Oga Ero Rtd. I wish to commend you very specially for hosting yet another successful edition of this rich cultural festival (the Igede Agba new yam festival). 


Sen. Akume conveyed President Tinubu's appreciation for being invited to the event, noting the government's commitment to driving growth and development across all sectors of the economy. 


"The renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu has been able to touch on every region of the country, with the economy growing on a positive trajectory as both the base and superstructure are accelerating rapidly". 

In response, the Paramount Ruler of Igede Nation, Adiharu of Igede, CP Oga Ero Rtd, thanked the President for attending the festival and expressed gratitude for the infrastructure developments in the region. 


The Monarch welcomed the news of the road construction project, which he acknowledged will alleviate longstanding transportation challenges in the between Benue and Cross River State.


"Your Excellency Sir, I and my entire kingdom are very grateful to you for honouring our humble invitation to be part of this year's celebration of our rich cultural heritage. 

"We are overwhelmed with joy to receive the news of the award for the construction of Oju-Ogoja Road. This road has been a nightmare to us over the decades until your government graciously came to our rescue."


The highlight of the event was the conferment of a Chieftaincy title on the President, acknowledging his support for the community. 


Other dignitaries present at the festival, including APC State Chairman Hon. Austin Agada and Central Planning Committee Chairman Benjamin Akobo, praised the President for appointing Igede sons into key government positions and implementing beneficial social schemes like NELFUND.


The annual Igede Agba festival, established in 1957, serves as a moment for reflection and reconciliation within the community, symbolizing the importance of cultural heritage in fostering unity and progress.
