Nasarawa Assembly Confirms Barr. Ayuba Wandai As NASIEC Chairman…Pledges Transparent, Free And Fair Elections

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has confirmed the reappointment of Barr. Ayuba Wandai Usman as Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC).

The confirmation followed his screening during Tuesday’s plenary in Lafia, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, Ph.D.
Announcing the resolution, the Speaker directed the Clerk to communicate the decision of the House to Governor Abdullahi Sule for further action. He also charged Barr. Wandai to uphold integrity and fairness in the discharge of his duties.

Lawmakers from the nominee’s constituency, Hon. Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, Ph.D. (APC, Nasarawa Central) and Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana (SDP, Udege Loko), spoke in support of Wandai’s reappointment, citing his experience and past achievements.

The motion for confirmation was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba. It was unanimously adopted.

Speaking with newsmen after his confirmation, Barr. Wandai reaffirmed his commitment to conducting transparent, free, and fair local government elections, noting that the 2024 council poll organized by NASIEC was adjudged the most credible in the state’s history.

“I assure the people of Nasarawa State that we will continue to improve on transparency and fairness in our electoral processes,” Wandai pledged.
The NASIEC Chairman expressed gratitude to Governor Sule for his reappointment and to the Assembly for its continued support, promising to discharge his duties without fear or favour.
