The Nasarawa South Senatorial District comprises five Local Government Areas, Awe, Doma, Keana, Lafia, and Obi. For equity, fairness and the spirit of brotherhood, the time has come for Keana Local Government to produce the next senator representing the district.
A careful look at the political history of the zone reveals a clear pattern of imbalance. Obi has produced senators on three occasions, while Lafia and Doma have each had their turn twice. Doma presently holds the seat. In contrast, Keana has yet to be given the opportunity to represent the district at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.
True justice demands that every Local Government Area should have the chance to contribute its own voice and leadership at the highest legislative level.
Ensuring that each council takes a turn strengthens unity, promotes a sense of belonging, and reinforces democratic ideals.
If this imbalance continues, then any proclaimed zoning arrangement risks being seen as nothing more than a political gimmick, a tool for a few power brokers to dominate others. Such a practice undermines the very principle of inclusion that zoning is supposed to protect.
It is therefore both just and timely that Keana Local Government be supported to produce the next senator for Nasarawa South in 2027.
Doing so will not only honour the spirit of equity and fair play, but also foster greater cohesion and mutual respect among all the component communities of the senatorial district.
