Former Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial aspirant, Dr. Mike Omeri Agbo-Omeri, has cautioned Nigerians against allowing the nation’s culture and traditions to fade into extinction.
Dr. Omeri, who also holds the traditional title of Okina of Owusakyo, gave the charge while joining the people of Owusakyo Kingdom to celebrate the 34th coronation anniversary of His Royal Highness, Osakyo of Owusakyo, HRH Osula Inarigu, in Means, Nasarawa State.
Expressing concern over the rapid disappearance of indigenous customs,
Omeri called on traditional custodians to reawaken community consciousness and sensitize the younger generation on the importance of cultural preservation.
“Our culture and tradition must not be allowed to go into extinction,” Omeri said.
“It is necessary and important so that our children yet unborn will not be deprived of the heritage handed down by our forefathers.
Preservation of culture and tradition should never become alien in our society.”
The frontline PDP senatorial hopeful congratulated HRH Osula Inarigu on his 34 years on the throne, commending his peaceful and visionary leadership.
“Your Royal Highness, we are grateful to Almighty God for sustaining you in peace and sound health throughout these 34 years of your reign,” Omeri said.
“I pray that these years will be counted as the first steps into a greater legacy of blessings, progress and prosperity for the people of Owusakyo Kingdom and Nasarawa State at large.
May God grant you excellent health and many more years of selfless service to the peace and progress of your people.”
