The Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), in collaboration with the Adamawa State Sports Council, the State Ministry of Education, and the Nigeria School Sport Federation (NSSF), Adamawa Chapter, has organized a two-day grassroots badminton training for teachers and students in Yola.
The training, held on 24 and 25 September 2025 at the General Murtala Mohammed College hall, brought together 20 Physical Education teachers and 80 secondary school students from the Yola area.
The programme, facilitated by George Shitta, Director of Sports, Taraba State Sports Commission, alongside four other experienced badminton coaches, focused on introducing the game of badminton at the grassroots level.
Participants were taught fundamental skills such as grip, footwork, service techniques, flexible stance, strokes, game strategies, and proper warm-up routines.
The initiative, supported by BFN’s grassroots partner, the Community Sports and Educational Development (CSED) Initiative, is part of ongoing efforts to use badminton as a platform to enhance both sporting and social development among teachers and students.
At the end of the training, basic badminton kits including rackets, shuttlecocks, and nets were distributed free of charge to participating schools.
The event also witnessed the attendance of the Director of the Adamawa State Sports Council, Mr. Daniel Ahmed, while courtesy visits were paid to Hajia Aisha M. Umar, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, and Birsan Panuel, Executive Secretary of PPSMB.
Observers noted that the training demonstrated the potential impact of collaboration among key stakeholders in promoting the academic and athletic development of teachers, grassroots coaches, and students across Adamawa State.
