The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State has expelled the member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, over alleged anti-party activities and failure to fulfill party financial obligations.
According to Daily Nigerian, Jibrin, in an interview with DCL newspaper on Friday, hinted that it would not be surprising if he eventually left the NNPP.
He also claimed to have played a key role in helping the ruling party secure victory in Kano, which paved the way for his return to the House of Representatives under the NNPP in the 2023 elections.
However, during a press conference in Kano on Saturday, the NNPP state chairman, Hashim Dungurawa, announced Jibrin’s expulsion, accusing him of repeatedly undermining the party and its leadership in the media.
Dungurawa described Jibrin as a “weak politician” whose electoral victory was solely a product of the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP structure, not his individual strength.
He revealed that a reconciliation committee was set up to engage Jibrin after his controversial appearance on Channels Television, but his subsequent public remarks showed clear defiance of the party’s principles.
“Instead of cooperating with the reconciliation process, he went ahead to take positions contrary to our ideals. He openly pledged loyalty to another political structure.
That is why we expelled him. He has no meaningful contribution to offer,” Dungurawa declared.
