The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed nine new cases of Lassa fever in Ondo, Edo, and Taraba States.
In its Epidemiological Week 31 situation report, the NCDC revealed that a total of 836 confirmed cases and 156 deaths have been recorded nationwide this year, representing a case fatality rate of 18.7 percent – higher than the 17.3 percent recorded in the same period of 2024.
The agency noted that while both suspected and confirmed cases have declined compared to last year, the fatality rate remains a concern.
It also confirmed that no healthcare worker was affected during the reporting week.
