The Nasarawa State Government has unveiled a series of empowerment programmes targeting youths, women, students, and pensioners as part of efforts to drive inclusive development and improve the welfare of citizens.
Speaking at the official launch and distribution ceremony in Lafia, Governor Abdullahi Sule said his administration has acquired a Doja Electric Vehicle Model 3 and 50 units of electric tricycles, which will be distributed to beneficiaries including students, youth associations, cultural and women groups, and persons with disabilities.
According to the governor, the electric tricycles are fitted with air conditioning and will be charged at designated centers within the state secretariat and other key locations in Lafia, Akwanga, and Keffi.
Beneficiaries include Nasarawa State University, Keffi; College of Education, Akwanga; institutions in Lafia; Women Christian Association; FONWAN; cultural groups; and the State Disability Commission.
Governor Sule further highlighted his administration’s commitment to pensioners and retirees, noting that the state has released ₦1 billion to clear backlog of pension arrears and gratuities for retirees covering the period 1999 to 2010.
“Over 1,000 retirees are set to benefit from the disbursement.
In addition, the state government will pay 100% of arrears for those who retired in 2012, amounting to ₦1.6 billion, while contributing ₦600 million to support local government gratuity payments,” he said.
The governor also reaffirmed his commitment to education, disclosing that the state has covered the cost of the 2025 NECO examination fees for all secondary school students in Nasarawa.
A government committee set up to explore ways of further supporting citizens has recommended measures to cushion economic hardship, including 50% subsidy on fertilizer and rice to ensure affordability and food security.
Governor Sule stressed that these initiatives reflect his administration’s determination to create opportunities for young people, empower women, and provide dignity for retirees, while driving sustainable growth in the state.
