Kano is mourning the loss of one of its most respected journalists, Sadiq Gentle, who was macheted to death in his own home by suspected assailants.

Gentle, a Senior Special Reporter in the office of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, was reportedly attacked late at night by unidentified thugs who stabbed him multiple times and stole his phones.

He was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, but passed away before undergoing emergency surgery.

A close friend, Mujtaba Muhammad Auwal, confirmed the heartbreaking incident:

“They broke into his house, attacked him, and took his devices. He didn’t survive.”

Growing Insecurity, Deafening Silence

This incident follows a disturbing trend of violent attacks in Kano. Just recently, a BUK student was stabbed to death in Dorayi. With no official statement yet from Kano authorities, residents are demanding answers , and action.

Friends and colleagues flooded social media with tributes. One user wrote:

“Sadiq was gentle, humble, and hardworking. He didn’t deserve this. We’re tired of the silence!”

Who’s Next?

The fear is palpable. With no suspects named and no arrests made, many in Kano are left wondering:
“Who’s next?”

Citizens are now calling for the state government and security agencies to step up, before more lives are lost.
