Garkuwan Giza.
His Excellency and Distinguished Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura was and remains in history the only Governor the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC ever produced in Nigeria.
The CPC found strength in the merger that produced the APC through it’s Governor Al-Makura and that was what the former President Muhammadu Buhari took to the negotiation table as the basis and contribution of the CPC to the merger of political parties that eventually culminated in the emergence of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the ruling party in Nigeria today
No body in the CPC or APC can deny the fact that Al-Makura was the rallying point of the CPC after President Buhari and nobody can diminish the leadership role of Al-Makura in the formation and sustenance of the APC as a political party in Nigeria. And to further consolidate his commitment to both the CPC and the APC, Al-Makura won election and served as the Governor of Nasarawa State on both the platforms of the CPC and the APC in succession
Nobody in the APC today, including with the greatest respect to him, President Buhari, has had this rare privilege Al-Makura had. Even on this score without more, Al-Makura is the most important political personality in the CPC after the former President Buhari. Al-Makura therefore deserves every right not only to speak for but lead the CPC directly behind Buhari.
I was not a member of the CPC and I am not a member of the APC or indeed any political party in Nigeria. I have never been.
