A raging inferno has destroyed the popular City Bite Bakery in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, leaving property worth millions of naira in ruins and throwing over 60 workers into sudden unemployment.

The fire, which broke out around 1:00 a.m. while staff members were asleep, completely consumed the facility before help could arrive.

Manager of the bakery, Muhammad Umar Zanwa, who told newsmen in lafia, lamented the total loss of equipment, supplies, and other valuables. According to him, “We lost everything.

The fire consumed all our belongings. This bakery is the source of livelihood for over 60 of our staff members.”

Zanwa appealed to the government, philanthropists, and non-governmental organizations to intervene and assist them in rebuilding their lives and operations.

Confirming the incident, Commandant of the Nasarawa State Fire Service, Mr. Umbugu Joshua, said the fire service received a distress call at about 3:20 a.m. and promptly dispatched officers to the scene to contain the blaze.

However, Joshua attributed the scale of destruction to the delay in contacting the fire service. “The damage could have been minimized if we had been contacted earlier,” he said.

He confirmed that no lives were lost and urged the public to alert the fire service immediately in the event of any fire outbreak.

Authorities are continuing to assess the extent of the damage as investigations into the exact cause of the fire are underway.
