NSCDC, FIDA Partner to Tackle Gender-Based Violence Against Women and Girls in Niger State

The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) and the Niger State Chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) will continue to partner in combating gender based violence against girl-child and women in the state.

The state Commandant of the NSCDC  Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi Kambara stated this while recieving the executive members of International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in his office led by its  Chairman Barrister Bolanle Jibogun

He  disclosed that the Command under his leadership hold women in high esteem and also has zero tolerance against child abuse and molestation assurring FIDA of his Command commitmen in partnership in the Protection of  child right and  Combat gender related vices in the state.

According to the Commandant, the command has  Severally arrested and prosecuted  some perptrators of gender based related violence against girl-child and women "with your visit to my Command,I think the partnership with your organization will not be undermine.

" We will work together  with your organization to Collectively bring an end to child molestation and gender based related cases in Ñiger State.
 
" The partnership with my Command and FIDA is a good development and together,we can bring an end to the increasing menance of child molestation and gender based related cases in the state" he assured.

Speaking earlier the state chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Barrister Bolanle Jibogun announced that  the visit to the state Command of the NSCDC, was part of the ongoing advocacy visit to some security agencies to inform the existing of new law Known as Violence Against Person VAP  that is to replace the outdated penal code law.

She  disclosed that the NSCDC as a Security outfit that also enforce and prosecute offenders " we are in your office to advocate to you and your legal department on the new law already passed by the National Assembly VAP that is to replace the Penal code".

Barrister Bolanle Jibogun described the penal code law as archaic which according to her has not served the required punishment to offenders. 

She stated that with the new  VAP law, it encompasses all aspects of severe punishment to perptrators of gender related cases against "both  sexes. Even sodomy against male child will not escape this new law that is why is called VAP. So we are here to present to you a copy of the VAP for your legal department"
