The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lafia Branch, has flagged off its 2025 Bar Week with a series of engaging events aimed at promoting wellness, unity, and critical dialogue on justice sector reform in Nasarawa State.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the Branch, Barr. Alaku Danies Dauda, emphasized the holistic nature of this year’s celebration, noting that the legal profession is not confined to courtrooms and offices alone.

"This year’s Bar Week is not just about legal discourse; it’s also about wellness. As we often say, ‘health is wealth,’ and today’s health walk, led by the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Isaac Danladi, demonstrates our commitment to that principle," Barr. Dauda said.

He announced that later in the day, a friendly football match between the NBA Lafia Branch and their counterparts from NBA Keffi Branch would take place at the Lafia Township Stadium by 4 p.m., behind the Taal Model Primary School.

Highlighting the intellectual segment of the week, Barr. Dauda revealed that a public lecture and interactive session will be held on Monday at the Taal Conference Hotel.

The lecture, themed “The Need for a Harmonious Relationship Between the Bar, the Bench, and Security Agencies for the Smooth Administration of Criminal Justice in Nasarawa State,” is expected to feature robust discussions among legal professionals, judicial officers, and stakeholders in the security sector.

The weeklong events will climax on Tuesday with the Annual Bar Dinner, which this year is being held in honour of Dr. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State and former Attorney General. Barr. Dauda described Dr. Magaji as “a pillar of support to the Bar, even before his appointment,” noting that the dinner is a token of the Branch's appreciation.

In his remarks, the Honourable Attorney General, Barr. Isaac Danladi, commended the NBA Lafia leadership for curating a week that balances professional discourse with wellness and camaraderie.

“This year’s theme is timely and essential. Strengthening the synergy between the Bar, the Bench, and security agencies is critical to the efficient delivery of justice. We must collectively bridge the gaps that hinder the justice system from operating smoothly,” Barr. Danladi stated.

He echoed the importance of health-focused initiatives such as the morning walk and the football match, stressing that lawyers must also invest in their personal well-being to remain productive.

Barr. Danladi expressed his deep appreciation for the honour being extended to Dr. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, describing it as well deserved.

“Dr. Magaji has been a consistent supporter of the Bar and the legal community in Nasarawa State. His recognition at the dinner is both timely and appropriate,” he added.

The event drew notable figures from the judiciary, senior lawyers, and members of the public. Barr. Dauda concluded his remarks with light-hearted camaraderie, welcoming all attendees and expressing hope that the remaining programs would enjoy the same robust participation.

The NBA Lafia Bar Week continues through Tuesday with expectations of vibrant engagement from stakeholders across the justice sector.
