The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Senator Dino Melaye, its former governorship candidate in Kogi State, over alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension was announced by the party's executive committee in Ayetoro Gbede, Ward 1, through a memo dated September 12, 2024.

The party’s Ward Executive Committee convened on Friday, September 12, to discuss the findings of a disciplinary committee set up to investigate Melaye's alleged misconduct. Despite being summoned, Melaye failed to appear before the committee, an action the party considers a gross disrespect to its leadership.

The committee cited violations of the PDP constitution and principles of party discipline, leading to his immediate suspension.

The party emphasized that Melaye’s conduct had brought embarrassment and disrepute, making his continued membership untenable.

The suspension, in line with Article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, follows allegations that Melaye mismanaged party funds during the November 2023 governorship elections and made reckless statements damaging to the party.

Party executives urged all members to remain committed to party discipline and unity as they strive to build a stronger organization capable of winning future elections.
