A leaked document circulating on social media has ignited controversy across Nigeria.

The document, purportedly from the office of the Secretary to the State Government of Zamfara, outlines a proposal requesting the approval of a staggering N1.378 billion for a "government reconciliation programme" with alleged bandit leaders and media promoters.

The document, addressed to the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, highlights the severe impact of banditry on the socio-economic fabric of the state.

It lists N200 million each for several notorious bandit leaders, including Kachalla Dogo Gide and Bello Turji, as part of an effort to curb insecurity.

Furthermore, significant sums are allocated to media figures, with Sahara Reporters, Jackson Ude, and Bashir Hadejia each listed for payouts.

Signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mallam Abubakar M. Nakwada, the letter requests the immediate release of funds from the state’s Security Trust Fund to finance the initiative.

This proposal has drawn widespread criticism, with many questioning the ethics of negotiating with individuals allegedly responsible for widespread violence in the region.

The document’s leak has fueled speculation over government dealings with bandits, raising concerns over transparency and accountability in handling the state's security challenges.

The Zamfara State Government is yet to officially respond to the viral controversy.
