In a determined effort to tackle Nigeria’s growing unemployment crisis, the Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Silas Agara, has announced an ambitious plan to create 55,806 job opportunities.
This initiative is a key component of the "Youths Must Breathe" campaign, aligning with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda aimed at driving economic growth.
Agara emphasized the importance of youth empowerment, highlighting that the nation’s progress depends on nurturing the potential of its younger population.
“Youths Must Breathe” is more than a slogan—it is a call to action, Agara said, underscoring the urgent need to equip young people with the skills required for success in today's competitive labor market.
The DG laid out a broad plan to launch skill development programs across sectors like agriculture, information technology, and specialized public works.
These initiatives will focus on creating a direct link between training and employment, particularly through partnerships with private sector firms, ensuring job placements for program participants.
Agara also stressed the growing need for digital literacy and soft skills like communication and problem-solving, which are increasingly essential in today’s job market.
The Directorate will incorporate these elements into its training programs, offering a well-rounded approach to youth development.
As the NDE prepares to roll out these opportunities, Agara called for collaboration from state governments, community leaders, and other stakeholders, urging them to support the Directorate’s efforts.
He reiterated his commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring that every initiative will be closely monitored to ensure its success.
