The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, H.E. Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle MON, has announced a decisive military action against the escalating threat of banditry and terrorism in the North West region, particularly in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi States.
Expressing deep concern over the activities of terrorists and bandits in these areas, Dr. Matawalle directed the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and other military leaders to accompany him to Sokoto, the headquarters overseeing military operations across the affected states. This move signals the Federal Government's intensified efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
The Defence Minister's visit to the Northwest will involve direct supervision of military operations, with a specific focus on dismantling the criminal networks led by notorious bandit leader Bello Turji. This decision follows a recent incident where bandits circulated videos of a Nigerian military armored vehicle stuck in a waterlogged area in Kwashabawa, Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The bandits later celebrated the situation, which Dr. Matawalle condemned as unacceptable.
"The Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, is committed to providing full support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria in eliminating these threats. We will deploy all necessary assets to ensure these criminal elements are eradicated, and peace is restored to our communities," stated Dr. Matawalle.
He assured the residents of Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi States that the security forces would leave no stone unturned in their mission to flush out the bandits and terrorists. He also called on the local population to remain vigilant and cooperate with the security forces to achieve this goal. The Defence Minister emphasized that the safety and well-being of all Nigerians remain the government's top priority.
Dr. Matawalle's presence in the region is expected to boost the morale of the armed forces as they embark on this critical mission. The Federal Government remains steadfast in its resolve to protect the lives and properties of its citizens, ensuring that the North West is freed from the grip of banditry and terrorism.
