In an exclusive interview with our correspondent at his office on Shendam Road, Lafia, the Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Hon. Mohammed Musa Dan'azumi, disclosed that the long-awaited recruitment of 4,700 basic school teachers is set to be concluded soon.
He revealed that the final list of qualified candidates would be released shortly.
"I have served as the Executive Chairman of NSUBEB for almost eight years now, and there has been no recruitment of primary school teachers since 2011," Dan'azumi said.
He emphasized that the recruitment exercise would be based strictly on merit, aiming to improve the quality of education in the state.
The Chairman highlighted that the recruitment process is unique, involving a committee of experts from various sectors, including the Local Government Chairmen, the National Teachers Institute, the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, and the Ministry of Education, all under the leadership of Joseph Kaura.
"One thing that sets Governor Abdullahi Sule apart from others is his ability to channel resources to the right places.
That is the hallmark of Governor Sule’s administration," Dan'azumi added.
He also issued a strong warning to government officials and others attempting to exploit the recruitment process for personal gain.
"If you are part of a syndicate collecting money for jobs, Nasarawa State is no longer safe for you. Change your ways before security operatives catch up with you," he warned.
The Chairman further urged community leaders to take ownership of public schools, expressing his disappointment over the lack of concern shown by some local heads regarding the condition of government schools.
He recounted incidents where people vandalized school properties, such as removing zinc from roofs and stealing window frames.
Dan'azumi praised Governor Abdullahi Sule for his commitment to education, particularly for the prompt payment of matching grants, which run into billions of naira.
"It is only God that will reward Governor Abdullahi Sule for the good work he is doing for the people," he said.
He also commended the Governor's timely payment of counterpart funds to NSUBEB and the distribution of infrastructure and instructional materials across the state.
"Governor Sule’s presence is felt in almost every community," Dan'azumi concluded.
