The Member representing Toto/Gadabuke in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, has announced his defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision, according to Hon. Isimbabi, stems from the leadership crisis currently affecting the NNPP at the national level.
Speaking to journalists at in Lafia, Hon. Isimbabi explained that the party's constitution allows members to defect to another party in the event of a crisis.
He emphasized that his decision is in line with the provisions of the Nigeria constitution and his commitment to the welfare of his constituents.
While commending Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Hon. Isimbabi highlighted several developmental projects initiated by the governor that have significantly impacted his constituency.
These projects include road construction, the building of a mini-stadium, and the elevation of a traditional institution from second to first class.
Reflecting on the 2023 elections, Hon. Isimbabi noted that his constituents voted for Governor Sule under the APC and elected him as their representative under the NNPP, showcasing their support for credible candidates rather than party lines.
As the Chairman of the House Committee on Youth and Sports, Hon. Isimbabi expressed no regrets over his decision to join the APC, affirming his commitment to the development of his constituency within the framework of the law.
