The Dangote Refinery has refuted claims made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, regarding the price of petrol. Soneye had earlier stated, as reported by Daily Trust, that the Dangote Refinery was selling petrol at ₦898 per litre to NNPCL.
In a statement released by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer for Dangote Refinery, the company described Soneye's statement as "misleading and mischievous.
" Chiejina emphasized that the refinery has not yet set the official price for petrol, as this will be determined when Naira-based crude oil sales to local refineries begin in October 2024.
Chiejina further clarified that the current crude stock was purchased in dollars and that the refinery sold its products to NNPCL in foreign currency, offering significant savings compared to current imports.
He urged the public to disregard Soneye's claims and highlighted that Nigerians will soon benefit from fuel availability in all regions, including remote areas, once local crude sales commence.
A formal pricing announcement is expected in October from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales, which was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Dangote Refinery assured the public that it remains committed to providing quality petroleum products and ending the persistent issue of fuel scarcity in Nigeria.
