The Progressive Youth Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio to intervene in the crisis plaguing Akwa Ibom State under Governor Umo Eno's administration.
In a distress letter, the forum, representing over 12 million youths, expressed deep frustration with the governor's policies, citing poor governance, economic mismanagement, and neglect of the people.
The group accused Governor Eno of imposing austerity measures, crippling economic activities by curbing local contracts, and impoverishing key sectors, including the media. They also lamented the administration's failure to deliver on promises, including job creation and infrastructural development.
"Governor Eno's policies have plunged Akwa Ibom into economic darkness," said Comrade Inyang Aaron, International President of the Progressive Youth Forum. "We urge Senator Akpabio to convene a stakeholders' meeting to address the state's challenges."
The youths highlighted growing insecurity, rising unemployment, demolitions leaving many homeless, and the lack of a responsive intermediary to reach the governor.
Their appeal comes as the state grapples with escalating hardships. "Rescue Akwa Ibom from a terrible fate," they pleaded, warning that these issues cannot be allowed to persist beyond 2027.
Chief Sylvester Martins, Secretary of the forum, emphasized the urgent need for intervention. "We cannot watch as our state suffers. We implore Senator Akpabio to use his influence to bring stakeholders together and find solutions."
The letter, signed by Comrade Inyang Aaron and Chief Sylvester Martins, represents a cry for help from Akwa Ibom's youths, seeking relief from Governor Eno's policies.
