A Total of 40 Schools were found to be involved in Mass cheating during the conduct of the 2024 National Examination Council (NECO) Senior Secondary school Certificate Examination (SSCE) in 17 States
This was disclosed by the Registrar Chief Executive of NECO Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi while addressing Journalists to formally Release the 2024 SSCE NECO Result in Minna Thursday.
Similarly, he revealed that twenty one supervisors were recommended for blacklisting as a result of poor supervision, Aiding and Abetting, Abscondment, Extortion, Drunkenness and Negligence, which cut across 12 states.
According to the Registrar, a total of one milion three three seventy six thousand candidates registered for the 2024 NECO SSCE examination representing 706,950 males and 669, 473 females while a total of candidates that sat for the examination is 1,376,423 representing 706,950 males and 665,624 females.
He disclosed that a number of candidates with five credits and above , Including English and Mathmatics is 828,284 representing 60.55 percent and a number of candidates with five credits and above irrespective of English and Mathmatics is 1,147,597, representing 83.90 percent
Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi told Journalists that a total of 8,437 candidates were involved in various forms of Examination Malpractice in 2024 as against 12,030 in 2023, Which show reduction of 30.1 Percent.
He disclosed that the 17 States involved in cheating will be invited to the council for discussion," after which appropriate sanctions will be applied. One school in Ekiti said to have been involved in examination fraud was recommended for derecognition for Mass cheating in 2 core subjects and 01 science subject".
