In a move that has heightened political tension in Nasarawa State, Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana, a member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly representing Udege/Loko constituency, has defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The defection was formalized when Hon. Kana was welcomed by the State PDP Chairman, Hon. Francis Orogu, in the company of PDP legislators.

The lawmaker did not provide any public explanation for his decision to switch parties, a development that has stirred widespread controversy across the state.

The defection comes just a day after Hon. Muhammed Garba Isimbabi left the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing leadership crises within the NNPP as the cause.

Amidst the ongoing political realignments, the SDP, alongside one of its aspirants from the 2023 primary elections, has taken legal action, filing a case in court and on petitioning the Speaker of the House to declare Hon. Kana's seat vacant, arguing that the party is not experiencing any internal crisis that would justify his defection.
