The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially sworn in 2,059 Batch B Stream 'II' corps members deployed to Nasarawa State for the 2024 service year.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Magaji Dan-Yamusa NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Keffi Local Government Area on Friday.
Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by Mr. Ja'afaru Ango, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, declared the orientation course open.
In his address, Governor Sule congratulated the corps members on completing their academic pursuits, which qualified them for national service, and emphasized the significance of their role in nation-building.
He highlighted the importance of their service, describing it as a bridge that connects diverse communities, fostering understanding and collaboration.
"Your efforts, both big and small, will leave indelible marks on the lives of those you serve," Sule remarked, urging the corps members to take this opportunity to learn, lead, and make a lasting impact.
The Governor further advised the corps members to pay close attention to the orientation course and the NYSC by-laws, which serve as guiding principles throughout the service year.
He encouraged them to avoid vices and actively participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, which is designed to prepare them for economic empowerment.
"May your experience in this orientation course be one of personal growth and the forging of lasting friendships," Sule added.
In her remarks, Mrs. Salamatu Muhammad, the NYSC Coordinator for Nasarawa State, expressed her gratitude for the Governor's presence at the ceremony, which she said underscored the importance of the event. She commended the corps members for their positive attitude and quick adjustment to camp life, noting their enthusiasm and resilience.
Muhammad revealed that the 2,059 corps members consist of 889 males and 1,170 females. She urged them to adhere to camp rules, respect constituted authority, and actively engage in all activities, emphasizing that their cooperation is crucial for a successful orientation experience.
"Embrace the learning opportunities, forge meaningful connections, and let this period be a chapter of growth in your personal journey," Muhammad encouraged.
