The Kebbi State Government has declared Friday, August 30, 2024, as a public holiday to allow citizens to prepare for the upcoming Local Government elections scheduled for Saturday, August 31, 2024.
This decision was announced in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Establishment, Pension, and Training, Hon. Auwal Manu-Dogondaji, in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
He conveyed that His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, approved the holiday to give the electorate ample time to prepare for the polls.
"Government decided to give people the opportunity to prepare themselves for the D-Day to exercise their franchise," the statement read.
The Commissioner urged all civil servants and the general public to participate actively in the election and to maintain the peace that the state currently enjoys.
He also called for a high level of decorum to be observed during and after the elections.
