The Cross River State House of Assembly has called for the immediate revocation of the concession of several state-owned industries and the Metropolitan Hotel, citing a lack of due process.
The Assembly directed the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice to take legal steps to seal the Metropolitan Hotel until its documents are presented for scrutiny.
The House further urged the revocation and return of all improperly concessioned industries to the State.
These decisions follow the Assembly’s debate on a report from the Special Committee investigating the ownership status of the Metropolitan Hotel and other state assets.
The committee, chaired by Rt. Hon. Davies Etta, found that the industries were concessioned during the administrations of former Governors Donald Duke and Ben Ayade, with little regard for due process.
The Assembly expressed concern over the situation and emphasized the need to safeguard state assets for the benefit of all citizens.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, condemned the misappropriation of state properties and assured that the Assembly would continue working to reposition the state under the "People’s First" agenda.
