Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) has officially commenced the world's first Medical Geology Post Graduate programs at the newly established Jose Centino International Centre for Medical Geology (JacMedGeo) Research.
Dr. Kitso Nghargbu, Director of Linkages and International Cooperation at NSUK, confirmed this pioneering development. He highlighted that medical geology is a multidisciplinary and emerging field, with its first textbook published in 2005. As such, NSUK is breaking new ground globally by offering these programs.
"We are leading the world in offering Post Graduate Diploma, Masters, and Doctorate degrees in Medical Geology," Dr. Nghargbu stated. He assured that the curriculum has been meticulously prepared, reviewed, and approved by top experts in the field.
The Jose Centino International Centre for Medical Geology Research is a project supported by the International Medical Geology Association and numerous global scholars. The Post Graduate Diploma will take 18 months, the Masters Degree 24 months, and the Doctorate Degrees 48 months to complete.
Admissions have begun, with forms available within the next eight weeks. Dr. Nghargbu also confirmed that the institution has secured sufficient manpower, with 32 faculty members from around the world, and significant international interest.
Medical Geology, as defined by Dr. Nghargbu, studies geological processes and materials that impact human health and the environment, including natural disasters and beneficial minerals and waters.
The launch of this program marks a significant milestone, positioning NSUK and Nigeria at the forefront of this innovative field.
