In a statement signed by Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has officially declared Monday, July 8, 2024, as a public holiday in celebration of the new Hijrah Year (Muharram) 1446.
This announcement comes as the first day of Muharram, which marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar, falls on Sunday, July 7, 2024.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed his solidarity with the Muslim community, recognizing the significance of this occasion and urging for deeper introspection on the community's journey and its role in promoting tolerance, mutual respect, and justice.
"The Governor shares in the mixed memories that this occasion brings to the Muslims annually, and calls for deeper introspection on the journey of the community and its duty to be the light bearers for tolerance, mutual respect, and justice," stated Rafiu Ajakaye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
Governor AbdulRazaq extended his heartfelt wishes for a blessed new Hijrah year, praying for Allah's blessings and guidance for the Muslim community.
