Court Orders Remand of Petroleum Marketer in Minna

A Minna  based petroleum Marketer Alhaji Muritala Musa Ilori has been remanded in Minna Medium Security Custodial center on the order of  Hajiya Fati Hassan  Umar the Presiding Chief Magistrate court Number two.

Alhaji Muritala Musa who was standing trial on four count charges of Criminal intimidation, contempt of court resisting arrest, and assault was arraigned before the court and was  ordered to be detain at the GRA Divisional Police command.

The four count charges, according to the police Prosecutor Inspector Loffeh Jacob Mrs, contravened sections  171,397,152 and 265 of the penal code law.

The Petroleum marketer was alledged to have on the 22, April,2024, while testifying in a witness box in a case he filed against an automobile dealer in Minna High court number three  while been cross examine by a counsel he flared up and  created a stir in court.

Alhaji Muritala Musa Ilori was earlier charged to three Magistrate Courts and the Courts declined and rejected his Prosecution for no reasons Until he was finally arraigned before the Minna Chief Magistrate court Number two



The defense counsel to the  defendant Barrister Denis Denis Terhemba, applied for the subpoena on the Judicial to appear before the court in accordance with the Provision of section 84 (2) of the evidence act 2011 as amended.

Arguing that  having assumed Jurisdiction to entertain the case of the contempt allegedly committed at the High court number three, the Chief Magistrate Fati Hassan Umar has the inherent powers  to make available to the defendant all documents necessary for his defense at the commencement of hearing.

He  submitted that it is vital and competent for Justice Mariya  Mummy Ismaila of High Court number three to appear before the  Magistrate court  and for her registrar  to produce records of proceedings  of the suit NSHC/266/2016 duly signed by Justice Mariya Mummy Ismaila of High court number three dated 22 April 2024.

Barrister Terhemba further demanded  for the Magistrate to make to the defendant CCTV Camera footage of the proceedings of the 22,April, 2024, of  High court 3, names and posting letters containing the duties of the orderly and Chief detail assigned to Justice Mariya Mummy Ismaila by the police and cause list of the court on 22, April 2024.


Equally, the defense counsel, applied for Justce Mariya  Ismaila to appear  and testify as a witness to tell the Magistrate what transpired when she order that  water should be given to the defendant during the court proceedings of 22,April  2024.

While giving rulling on the both applications, the Presiding Magistrate  Hajiya Fati Hassan Umar, requested  for time to study all the authorities cited by the defense counsel to the defendant   and ordered for  his remand till 16, July 2024.
