Ahead of the June 12 Democracy Day celebration, reports indicate a large mobilization of youths heading to Abuja for a planned protest on Tuesday night.**
A notification posted at the NUJ office in Abuja is calling for media coverage of the event. The document reads:
“We, the members of the Nigerian Youth Movement, wish to solicit your assistance in providing media coverage for our national demonstration scheduled for June 12, 2024, in Abuja at 12 noon.
The procession will commence at strategic points in Garki, Lugbe, and Wuse areas of the Federal Capital Territory, as Nigerian youths from various states have arrived in the FCT for the exercise.
It has become imperative that we voice out now before we all perish in silence. Enough is enough, as even security agencies, especially the military, have rendered themselves impotent in the hands of politicians. They can't even rise to save Nigerians at a time like this, hence our resolve to speak out now.”
The protest underscores the frustration and determination of the Nigerian youth to demand accountability and change in the face of perceived political and security failures.
