Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on politicians to avoid engaging in divisive politics that could undermine the peace and economic progress of the state and the nation.
Speaking during a visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Ports and Harbours, Governor Fubara stressed the importance of cooperation for the state's development.
The committee, led by Chairman Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, visited to conduct oversight functions at the Port Harcourt, Onne Sea Ports, and Bonny channels.
Governor Fubara highlighted the critical role these ports play in leveraging the blue economy, lamenting their current inactivity due to past political conflicts.
Governor Fubara stated that the ports' inactivity over the past years, due to political interference, has hampered economic growth. He emphasized the need to prioritize the state's progress over political rivalries.
"Politics of bitterness will not take us anywhere," Governor Fubara warned, urging support for initiatives that enhance the state's development.
He assured the committee of his administration's commitment to revamping the ports and implementing their recommendations.
Chairman Nnolim Nnaji acknowledged Rivers State's economic significance and expressed the committee's dedication to supporting the upgrade of the state's ports, emphasizing the potential benefits of the Blue Economy program.
