In a swift operation, the Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended individuals impersonating EFCC officials who were involved in a robbery and abduction incident targeting students at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa.
The suspects, using a Toyota Corolla with a false EFCC identity, robbed students at Samakwe Lodge and abducted an ND II student, Adudu Kingsley, on April 17th, 2024.
Upon receiving a distress call, police units engaged in a pursuit of the suspects.
The perpetrators attempted to escape but were thwarted when they abandoned their vehicle and victim at Anguwan Madugu. One suspect was apprehended by an angry mob, leading to a fatal altercation before police intervention.
The deceased suspect was later identified as a member of the criminal syndicate.
Further investigation by police authorities led to the arrest of three additional suspects from Custom Quarters and Up Market areas of Masaka. Recovered items included stolen smartphones and fake EFCC ID cards.
The arrested suspects have confessed to multiple crimes targeting student areas within Keffi and Nasarawa LGAs.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for detailed investigation.
Once investigations are concluded, the suspects will face prosecution in court.
The police have reassured the public of ongoing efforts to arrest the remaining suspect at large. Victims have positively identified the apprehended suspects, highlighting progress in the investigation.
