In a bid to enhance transparency and effective dissemination of government initiatives, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has expressed the need for closer cooperation with journalists across the state.
This call for collaboration was underscored by Mr. Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Adviser to the governor on Public Affairs, during a recent visit to the Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Lafia.
Ahemba, accompanied by a team of media aides, commended journalists for their diligent coverage of governmental activities since the inception of the administration in 2019.
He emphasized the crucial role played by the Correspondents' Chapel in disseminating accurate information to the public, especially to those outside the state.
"We want to use this opportunity to solicit for more collaboration with the chapel as you have been doing your best despite the challenges of the present times," Ahemba stated.
He urged journalists to uphold professionalism and impartiality in their reportage, assuring them of the government's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for journalism.
In response, Mr. Isaac Ukpoju, Chairman of the Correspondents' Chapel, expressed appreciation for the governor's outreach and emphasized the importance of continuous engagement between the government and journalists.
Ukpoju emphasized the journalists' duty as watchdogs and agenda-setters, stressing the necessity of reliable information for effective public service.
Ukpoju also urged the government to ensure journalists' access to credible information by involving them in official activities.
The call for enhanced collaboration signals a mutual commitment towards accountable governance and responsible journalism in Nasarawa State.
