In a stark turn from the previous administration's efforts, Governor Diri has faced criticism for eroding civil service reforms implemented by his predecessor, Governor Dickson. Under Dickson's tenure, extensive efforts were made to overhaul governance practices, including town hall meetings, conferences, and workshops aimed at sensitizing civil servants on the necessity of reform.
These initiatives resulted in significant cleanup of payrolls, elimination of ghost workers, and the establishment of verification committees to ensure fairness and objectivity across all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
Governor Dickson's vision emphasized transparency, accountability, due process, and value reorientation, with a declared "zero tolerance" for corruption.
However, Governor Diri's administration has been accused of neglecting these principles, leading to a decline in work ethics, low staff morale, and a resurgence of ghost workers within the civil service. Critics argue that the efficiency of the civil service has been significantly compromised under Diri's leadership, with a growing trend towards laissez-faire attitudes and a lack of commitment to productivity and service.
This shift has raised concerns about the long-term sustainability of governance reforms initiated by Governor Dickson.
