In response to a surge in armed robbery incidents in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, implemented a revamped community policing strategy, rallying public and vigilante support.
This initiative yielded significant results on April 5, 2024, at approximately 11:45 PM, when authorities received intelligence regarding an armed robbery in progress in the Aso Pada, Mararaba area.
Promptly acting on the tip-off, law enforcement officers, in collaboration with vigilant community members, engaged the criminals. During the operation, one suspect, identified as Ifienyichukwu Ilegalu, was neutralized, and another individual, Edache Joseph, aged 20, was apprehended. Two stolen phones and additional items were recovered from the perpetrators.
In a statement, the Commissioner of Police lauded the courage and cooperation of the police force, vigilante groups, and the local community, emphasizing the importance of collective action in combating crime.
He urged continued support from the public and reiterated the commitment of law enforcement agencies to maintain safety and security in the state.
