The National Interim Executives of the Benue State University Alumni Association (BSUAA) had denounced the announcement for election of the association on May 4.
The BSUAA Interim National Chairman, Prof. Qrisstuberg Amua, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press conference in Makurdi.
Amua said that the association under his leadership dissociated itself from the misinformation circulating on social and electronic media platforms that the association would conduct election on May 4.
"We dissociate ourselves from the illegal scheduled elections slated for May 4 and it is purported to take place at the Police Officers Mess, Makurdi.
"These actions are the handiwork of a former BSUAA President, Mr Lawrence Vihimga and his followers.
"The announcement did not only contravene a subsisting court order by the Benue State High Court of Justice but also poses a threat to the peace and security within the association and Benue as a whole.
"The disregard for the rule of law exhibited by these imposters only serves to perpetuate the culture of theft and maladministration that has plagued our association," Amua said.
He said that the national interim executive of the association remained committed to fostering harmony, unity, and legality within BSUAA.
He further disclosed that efforts had been made to extend the olive branch to all members while seeking legal recourse to restrain the renegade group from further destabilizing the association.
He commended the Benue State Government, under the exemplary leadership of Gov. Hyacinth Alia, for upholding the rule of law and standing against actions that undermine peace and security.
"We call upon the Commissioner of Police, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, and the Special Adviser on Internal Security to intervene and halt the illegal activities of the renegade group.
"We urge all loyal members of the BSUAA to remain steadfast in their support for the legitimate leadership of Amua.
"Together, we shall work towards conducting credible, free, and fair elections that will bring an end to the cycle of leadership irresponsibility, maladministration and record of financial impropriety that has been the bane of all crises in the association," he said.
