The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a significant salary increase ranging from 25% to 35% for civil servants under six consolidated salary structures. These structures include the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).

Previously, salary increases had been implemented for those in the tertiary education and health sectors. This included the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS) for universities, as well as the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS) for polytechnics and colleges of education. The health sector also saw increases through the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).

The announcement, signed by Emmanuel Njoku, the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), specifies that these salary increases will take effect from January 1, 2024.

Additionally, the Federal Government has approved pension adjustments of 20% to 28% for pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme, corresponding to the aforementioned consolidated salary structures. These pension adjustments will also be effective from January 1, 2024.

This move by the government aims to enhance the welfare of civil servants and pensioners, ensuring fair compensation and recognizing their contributions to various sectors of the public service.
