In a brazen nighttime raid, thieves targeted the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in Lafia, making off with valuable items from the offices of high-ranking officials.
Under the cover of darkness, the perpetrators breached the Ministry's premises by scaling the fence before breaking into the offices of the Permanent Secretary, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, and the Director of Administration and Supplies, Ms. Helen Ken Madaki.
From the Permanent Secretary's office, a 43-inch television set and a wall bracket stabilizer for an air conditioner were among the stolen items. Meanwhile, the Director of Administration and Supplies suffered the loss of a 43-inch television set after the thieves rifled through drawers in search of valuables.
Although an attempted break-in at the Commissioner's office was thwarted, the damage was already done, leaving Ministry officials stunned and disheartened.
On the following Monday, April 29th, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, accompanied by Ministry management members, conducted an assessment of the affected offices.
He expressed dismay at the incident, labeling it "surprising and disheartening.
Assurances were made that the matter had been reported to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in Lafia, with investigations already underway to apprehend the culprits.
Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi issued a stern warning, vowing that those responsible would face the full force of the law.
He urged Ministry staff to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities promptly.
Eche Amos, the Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, reiterated the Ministry's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its premises and personnel.
