The recent 1 billion settlement of gratuities for pensioners' backlog by Governor Abdullah Sule of Nasarawa State has elicited prayers and commendations from the beneficiaries.
Our correspondent reports that the 1 billion set aside to pay pensioners from 1999 to 2010 was spearheaded by Gov. Sule himself.
During the flag-off ceremony of the disbursement, Governor Sule urged the pension bureau to ensure that the targeted pensioners benefited from the exercise. Weeks after the exercise.
Our correspondent spoke with some of the beneficiaries who all echoed praises for the governor and his administration for their support to pensioners in the state.
The state chairman of pensioners, Comrade Hudu Baba Abdullahi, confirmed that since the creation of the state, pensioners have never had it as good as they do now under the leadership of Governor Sule.
He highlighted numerous ways in which the state governor has assisted pensioners, including the abolition of percentage-based pension payments and the consistent monthly payments, among others.
He took the opportunity to commend the Director-General of the Pension Bureau, Suleiman Nagogo, for his prudent management of resources and ensuring that past wrongs were corrected.
Abdullahi, akin to Oliver Twist, appealed to Governor Sule to uphold his promise of continuing to clear the backlog of gratuities in the state.
"The steps our governor has taken are clear signals that in a few days to come, the state will be free from gratuity arrears," he stated.
He urged the people of the state, especially pensioners, to continue giving Governor Sule maximum support and cooperation to enable him to succeed.
