The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has lauded the transformative leadership qualities of Professor Suleiman Bala-Mohammed, the outgoing Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK). Under his tenure, the institution witnessed significant developmental strides across infrastructure, human capital, and staff remuneration, as affirmed by Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU's President. The union's NSUK branch convened a Special Valedictory Congress to honor Bala-Mohammed's contributions, marked by a lecture on his journey as a comrade and university administrator delivered by Prof. Adegboyega Kolawole from the University of Abuja. Bala-Mohammed's term is set to conclude on April 2, 2024, prompting reflections on his impactful tenure. Prof. Sam Alu, Chairman of ASUU NSUK branch, highlighted Bala-Mohammed's achievements, including his support for mainstreaming the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) into staff salaries. The union emphasized the need for the state government to appoint the next VC based solely on merit to sustain the positive momentum. Additionally, Prof. Silas Gyar, former Chairman of ASUU NSUK branch, praised Bala-Mohammed for fostering closer ties between the union and the university management and instituting monthly inaugural lectures for professors. Bala-Mohammed's legacy as a proactive leader and advocate for academic excellence resonates as he prepares to pass the baton to his successor.
