The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has assured Nigerians that his administration, if elected, will restore fuel subsidy for the benefit of all citizens.
Obi gave the assurance during a town hall meeting in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, which attracted a large gathering of supporters, party members and other political stakeholders.
Earlier in his welcome address, the NDC Chairman in Nasarawa State, Comrade Dogo Danladi Shamma, welcomed the presidential candidate, his running mate, Dr. Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, and other party leaders and supporters to the state.
Shamma expressed appreciation to the large number of supporters who gathered for the meeting, describing the engagement as an opportunity for the party to connect with the people and present its vision ahead of the 2027 general election.
He also called for unity, commitment and collective support among party members as the NDC prepares for the forthcoming elections.
In his address, Obi challenged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to account for funds generated from the removal of the fuel subsidy from 2023 to date.
He also criticised Tinubu over his foreign trips, alleging that the Nigerian President had travelled abroad more than any other president in the world.
The NDC presidential candidate, who is campaigning alongside his running mate, Dr. Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, further pledged to prioritise education, promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities and improve access to basic amenities across the country.
On education, Obi stressed the importance of strengthening the sector to provide young Nigerians with better opportunities for learning, skills acquisition and national development.
He also promised an inclusive approach to governance that would ensure persons with disabilities are not marginalised but enjoy equal opportunities and participate meaningfully in society.
On basic amenities, he pledged to improve access to essential public services and infrastructure to enhance the welfare and living standards of citizens.
The Akwanga town hall meeting formed part of the NDC's political engagements ahead of the 2027 general election, as the party seeks to mobilise supporters and communicate its policy agenda to Nigerians.
