The 2027 gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State, Distinguished Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita, has expressed sympathy with students of Government Science Secondary School, Batagarawa, their parents and the entire Batagarawa community following a reported health crisis that affected 65 students.
In a statement signed by Abubakar Ahmed, Spokesman of the ABK Campaign Office, Babba Kaita described the incident as disturbing and called for an immediate and comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the health complications.
According to a report published by Daily Trust on October 27, 2026, the affected students were reportedly administered drugs against bilharzia, a disease associated with urinary complications.
The newspaper also quoted the Katsina State Commissioner for Education as confirming the incident and stating that the 65 affected students were responding to treatment.
The ADC gubernatorial candidate expressed concern over the number of students affected, stressing that the incident required urgent attention, particularly in view of a video circulating on social media showing some of the victims apparently struggling for survival.
He called on the relevant authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to book to serve as a deterrent to others.
Babba Kaita also urged the Katsina State Government and relevant agencies to extend the investigation to other schools and communities, especially in rural areas, where similar drugs might have been administered.
He emphasised the need for immediate safety measures to identify and protect other potentially affected students and community members, while ensuring that anyone requiring medical attention receives appropriate care.
The ADC candidate maintained that accountability, a thorough investigation and effective preventive measures were necessary to safeguard students' health and prevent a recurrence of the incident.
The statement was signed by Abubakar Ahmed, Spokesman, ABK Campaign Office.
