Sule Commissions 8km Akwanga Bypass, 1km Wamba Township Road

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, has commissioned an 8-kilometre bypass in Akwanga and a one-kilometre township road in Wamba as part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of the state’s creation.
The projects are designed to improve transportation, ease traffic congestion and support socio-economic development in the two communities.
Akwanga Bypass Named After Late Deputy Governor
The 8-kilometre Akwanga bypass is expected to reduce traffic congestion, improve the movement of people and goods, and stimulate economic activity in the town.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Sule pledged to install streetlights along the bypass following an appeal by the Chun Mada, Gamu Yari.
He also directed the Managing Director of the Nasarawa State Urban Development Board (NUDB) to approve the renaming of the newly constructed bypass in honour of the late former Deputy Governor, Damishe Luka Barau.
Recalling his relationship with the late deputy governor, Sule said he once received a call informing him that Barau had been stopped at a security checkpoint.
The governor said he immediately left his office to meet him.
After exchanging pleasantries, they held a brief meeting during which Barau discussed his political ambition ahead of the 2015 governorship election and sought Sule’s support.
Sule added that he had earlier directed that the road be constructed to a higher standard following a recommendation by a stakeholder identified as the Oga of Bauhaus, Nabis Hussain.
According to the governor, the additional cost of upgrading the road was less than ₦1 billion, prompting him to approve construction to the recommended standard.
Wamba Township Road Commissioned
In a separate development, Governor Sule commissioned a one-kilometre township road constructed by the Wamba Local Government Council under the leadership of its chairman, Hon. Jagga.
Sule commended the chairman for allocating part of the council’s resources to a project that directly benefits residents.
He said the project demonstrated that local government councils could use available resources to address urgent infrastructure needs in their communities.
“I know Local Government Chairmen will only collect money and spend, but one Chairman constructed a one-kilometre road,” Governor Sule said.
The governor said his administration remained committed to addressing challenges affecting economic growth, security, public trust, citizen engagement, transparency, accountability and democratic governance.
He added that the administration would continue to promote innovation, infrastructure development and reforms in critical sectors, including education, healthcare and technology, while empowering young people.
Sule further disclosed that work on the Wamba-Alizaga road was nearing completion, with only the construction of a bridge remaining.
He also announced that construction of the Wamba stadium had progressed significantly and that the project would soon be commissioned.
According to him, the Wamba market and the Local Government Secretariat would also be commissioned upon completion.
The governor said the projects formed part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure and stimulate socio-economic development across Nasarawa State.
