Nasarawa Assembly Seeks Redeployment of CP, Security Operatives to Udege, Other Troubled Communities
As Lawmaker Raises Alarm Over Killing of 32 Persons in Three Months

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has called on Governor Abdullahi Sule to direct the Commissioner of Police to redeploy police personnel to Udege and other communities affected by renewed communal violence across the state.
The resolution followed a Matter of Public Importance raised by the member representing Udege/Loko Constituency, Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana, during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, in Lafia.
The Speaker described the renewed attacks in Udege and other parts of the state as unfortunate, warning that continued insecurity would hinder socio-economic development in the affected communities.
He said the House resolved to urge Governor Sule to direct the Commissioner of Police to strengthen security presence in Udege and other flashpoints to restore law and order.
The Assembly also urged traditional rulers and community leaders to establish peace and reconciliation committees within their domains to promote peaceful coexistence.
In addition, the House appealed to the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), whom the Speaker described as "a son of the soil," to deploy more personnel to the affected communities to complement existing security efforts.
The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the Assembly's resolution to Governor Sule for immediate action.
Supporting the motion, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa'ad, Hon. Barr. Esson Mairiga, Hon. Hudu A. Hudu, Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar, Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki and Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Peter Akwe all stressed the need for urgent deployment of security operatives to crisis-prone communities across the state.
The lawmakers noted that improved security presence would help restore peace, protect lives and property, and enable residents to return to their normal socio-economic activities.
Earlier, Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana lamented the worsening security situation in Odeni Gida Electoral Ward of Nasarawa Local Government Area, saying the crisis had left residents living in fear.
According to him, since April 3, 2026, attacks allegedly carried out by armed herders have claimed about 32 lives within three months, while several others were injured or declared missing.
He further alleged that houses, vehicles, motorcycles, food stores and other valuables were destroyed during the attacks, while over 200 residents had been displaced and were currently taking refuge in makeshift camps.
Kana said the violence had also crippled farming and other economic activities in communities including Angwan Mada, Apura Adagba, Udege Kasa, Akyewa and Angwan Ogiri, among others.
He further recalled that one person was killed in Akum town on June 25, 2026, while another farmer was reportedly killed at Agam village on July 9, 2026.
The lawmaker warned that unless urgent action was taken, the violence could spread to neighbouring communities and worsen the humanitarian situation in the state.
He urged the House to condemn the attacks, direct security agencies to immediately restore peace, call on the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials for displaced persons, and mandate the House Committee on Security and Special Duties to investigate the remote and immediate causes of the crisis and report back to the Assembly.
