IPOB’s New DOS Head Pledges Unity, Kanu’s Release, Global Advocacy for Biafra
Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ accepts appointment as Head of IPOB’s 4th Directorate of State Administration, outlines priorities including Nnamdi Kanu’s release, diplomatic engagement, security, and movement cohesion.

The newly appointed Head of the 4th Administration of the Directorate of State (DOS) of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Chris Nwaọgụ, has formally accepted his appointment, pledging unwavering commitment to the organization's objectives while outlining key priorities for the new administration.
In an acceptance speech delivered on June 18, 2026, Nwaọgụ described his appointment by IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, as a sacred responsibility and vowed to serve with humility, discipline, and dedication to the movement’s cause.
He paid tribute to Kanu for what he described as years of resilience in the face of persecution, incarceration, and pressure, commending his steadfast commitment to the Biafra agitation. Nwaọgụ also acknowledged the sacrifices of detained IPOB members and those who lost their lives in pursuit of the group's objectives.
According to him, the immediate priority of the new administration will be to intensify efforts toward securing the unconditional release of Kanu and other individuals he described as Biafran prisoners of conscience.
The new DOS head further disclosed that the administration would strengthen diplomatic engagements in the United States, Europe, Israel, and other parts of the international community to advance awareness of the Biafran cause and seek support for self-determination efforts.
On security matters, Nwaọgụ reiterated the group's commitment to protecting communities in the South-East, stressing that IPOB would continue to support lawful measures aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
He expressed concern over what he termed a sustained misinformation campaign linking IPOB and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) to insecurity in the region, stating that one of the administration's major objectives would be to improve public understanding of the organization's position through advocacy, engagement, and dissemination of factual information.
Nwaọgụ also called for greater unity within the movement, urging members to avoid internal disputes and remain focused on shared goals.
“The future we seek cannot be built through bitterness or personal attacks. We shall engage every argument with reason, every challenge with facts, and every adversary with superior ideas and principled conviction,” he stated.
The DOS leader further reaffirmed IPOB’s longstanding support for a referendum as the most democratic means of determining the political future of the Igbo people, while expressing readiness to participate in what he described as credible dialogue concerning the aspirations of Ndigbo.
He emphasized that the complete composition of the 4th Directorate of State Administration would be unveiled in the coming days through official IPOB communication channels, including Biafra Radio.
Nwaọgụ also commended members of the dissolved 3rd Administration of the Directorate of State for their contributions during what he described as one of the most challenging periods in the movement’s history.
Describing the transition as an opportunity for renewal, he called on IPOB members worldwide to close ranks, remain disciplined, and work collectively toward the realization of their objectives under the leadership of Kanu.
The acceptance speech follows the recent dissolution of IPOB’s 3rd Directorate of State Administration and the inauguration of a new leadership structure by Kanu, who remains the central figure of the organization’s activities.
